Birthday Cake

So I got another order from my friend Michele. She wanted a cake done for her sisters birthday.
I got to work on a pretty cake.
We did a lemon cake with lemon buttercream icing and a chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream and a raspberry puree.

Cake Balls/Pops

So I told you about my friend Michele that is great at presenting challenges to me for cakes. Well she isn't the only one... My oldest daughter loves to come up with ideas for me to do. She is always wanting me to do special treats for her and her classmates.

For these we love to do cake balls or pops.

Here are some of the ones we have come up with over the past few years to share with the kids. They have all been quite a hit.

These cute little duckies were for Easter and they were inspired by Bakerella. (Love her stuff)

These were an end of the year treat.

Obviously for Christmas... duh!! OK maybe Halloween. Nothing like eating eyeballs!!! Yummy.

And these were this years little treat. They are actually mini cupcakes. I was hoping to have some come home because I sent both girls with a ton of them. Sadly only one slightly mangled one came home so I didn't even get to try them. Boohoo!! Oh well next time.

Jumpin in!!!

OK!!! I am excited to begin this blog but have to admit I am a little overwhelmed by the process. My writing skills ... well they aren't as good as my cakes so please bear with me and hopefully you will enjoy following along on my journey.

I have had this blog ready to go for months now and have been unsure how to go about doing it. So I have now decided to just dive in and start.

I have been making cakes for my girls since they were just little. I always have a feeling of excitement when I am putting a cake together. I feel very much in my element. I enjoy a little challenge in my decorating and have to say that one of my best friends (Michele) likes to present me with these on occasion.

This Yoshi was done for her son. He gave me a plastic character to work from and this was what I came up with. He wanted only the head and was very particular about where it was cut off and the green colour of it. Kids are the best critics and some of the toughest to please. I think he was quite happy with the end result.

So was I considering it was one of my first ever sculpted cakes!!!! And only the second time working with marshmallow fondant.

Here are just a couple more views.

So, I said that this was ONE of my first.... My first attempt at a fondant covered character cake was for my youngest daughter. She wanted one of those oh so cute minions from Despicable ME (one of my favourite movies).

So this was my first attempt and a definite learning curve.

I have learnt many a thing from this little guy but the biggest thing was just how much I loved doing this and would love to do it full time.

I have now completed the 4 Wilton courses, a class with a local cake decorator and am working on some on line classes.

The stuff you can learn is never ending!! :o)
